Meet our hero spices - Waigaon Turmeric and Araku Pepper!

Waigaon Turmeric

This turmeric powder comes from Waigaon, Maharashtra - a terroir renowned for its signature turmeric. We introduced regenerative farming practices among the small and marginal farmers of the region, focusing on enriching their soil with organic carbon, microbial life and bio-available nutrients.

The resulting turmeric is a nutrient powerhouse - with a remarkable curcumin content of over 4%, making it one of the finest in the world.

With wonderful healing properties and immunity boosting potential balanced by its distinctive flavour profile, this singular terroir product is for the truly discerning. Use it to flavour up your curries and lattes or better still - to take your beauty regime and detox rituals to the next level!

Araku Pepper

Our whole black peppercorn comes from deep within the forests of Araku Valley in Andhra Pradesh. In our work with the tribal communities there, we introduced regenerative agri-practices and enabled reforestation, helping them to revive their biodiverse ecosystem and stabilise their livelihoods.

Sharing the same lush microclimate as our acclaimed Araku Coffee, this forest-born pepper packs quite a punch!

With a high concentration of its active ingredient, Piperine, our pepper adds a beautiful piquancy to your dishes while quietly working its medicinal magic on your body.

UFCo’s Regenerative Farming Ecosystem

At UFCo, we are working towards creating one of the world's largest regenerative farming ecosystems - right here in India. Learn about it directly from our partner farmers in Wardha, Maharashtra as they talk about their experience with our regenerative practices and processes.

The Lowdown on Haldi Doodh (aka Turmeric Latte)

For many of us, haldi doodh is the quintessential Indian drink. It was often a non-negotiable part of our childhood bedtime routines and a mandatory companion on sick days (even as adults).

Turmeric, black pepper and warm milk. Nothing fancy, just 3 basic ingredients found in every Indian kitchen. Deceptively simple but together they make a combination so potent, it's been handed down generations for centuries.

The magic lies in the active compounds of our hero spices - curcumin in turmeric and piperine in pepper. Both compounds boast a host of healing properties - from fighting free radicals and preventing heart diseases to aiding digestion and keeping inflammation at bay.

However, what makes this combo so potent is piperine’s ability to increase the body’s ability to absorb curcumin by a whopping 2000%!

So remember kids - kali mirch must always follow haldi for maximum benefit!

Haldi Doodh 2.0 (Granny-approved)

Serves 1.

Milk - 1.5 cups
Waigaon Turmeric - 1 tsp
Araku Pepper - 1/2 tsp, crushed.
Sweetener to taste - honey or jaggery
*The classic recipe ends here but add the ingredients below to really take it up a notch!

Cinnamon powder - 1 generous pinch
Ground dried ginger - ¼ tsp
Vanilla extract - tiny splash (4 or 5 drops)

How to make: Stir all the ingredients together over a medium flame for about 5 minutes until your kitchen smells delicious. Make sure you watch out for the consistency - you want it to be creamy and silky, so stir continuously as it simmers before turning it off.

Cover and allow to rest for a minute to let all that flavorful goodness steep in nicely. Have it hot-hot at night or serve over ice for a refreshing afternoon drink. Enjoy!
